Civil Protection Units intervention results between August 27 and 28, 2026 (in the last 24 hours)

  Between August 27th and 28th, 2026 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 4,479 interventions, averaging one intervention every 19 seconds. These included 2,091 medical evacuations and 705 other operations across several provinces nationwide, following distress calls from citizens. These interventions covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and security operations.

Regarding traffic accidents, Civil Protection units carried out 202 interventions following numerous accidents across the country. These accidents resulted in 7 fatalities at the scene and injuries to 268 others, with varying degrees of severity. The injured were treated at the scene and then transported by our services to local hospitals.

Civil Protection services intervened to extinguish four separate urban fires in the provinces of Algiers, El Tarf, Oum El Bouaghi, and Mostaganem. These fires resulted in three people suffering from smoke inhalation in El Tarf, four people experiencing early signs of suffocation in Oum El Bouaghi, and three people suffering from respiratory distress in Mostaganem. The victims received necessary first aid and were transported to local health facilities.

Regarding the interventions of the Coast Guard and Recreation Service during the last 24 hours, they carried out 962 interventions, rescuing 726 people from imminent drowning and providing first aid to 222 people on site. Additionally, 21 people were transferred to local health centers. Two drowning deaths were recorded in the Annaba province: an 18-year-old drowned at Nasr Beach (outside of service hours) in the municipality of Annaba, and a 20-year-old drowned at Jenan El Bay Beach (a red flag sign indicating swimming is prohibited) in the municipality of Seraidi. The victims were transferred to the morgues of local hospitals.

Likewise, the Forest and Agricultural Firefighting Service intervened during the same period to extinguish 174 fires of vegetation cover, including: 67 forest fires, 53 bush fires, 12 scrubland fires, 17 fruit tree fires, 19 hay bale fires and 6 palm tree fires, across several states of the national territory. It is worth mentioning that the rapid and effective intervention of our services allowed us to extinguish these fires and prevent their spread to the rest of the vegetation cover.
