Civil Protection Units intervention results between December 6 and 7, 2025 (during the last 24 hours)
During the period from December 6th to 7th, 2025 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 2,684 interventions (an average of one intervention every 32 seconds), including 1,864 medical evacuations and 327 other operations, across several provinces of the country. These interventions followed distress calls from citizens and covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and security operations.
In the context of traffic accidents, Civil Protection units responded to 159 incidents across several provinces nationwide. These accidents resulted in 19 fatalities at the scene and injuries to 226 others, ranging in severity. The victims received on-site medical attention and were then transported by our services to local hospitals. The most serious incident occurred in the province of Beni Abbes, where 14 people died and 34 others were injured when a passenger bus veered off the road and overturned on National Route 50, in the municipality and district of Tebalbala. Significant material and human resources were deployed to assist the victims.
Civil Protection units also intervened to provide first aid to 26 people who were suffocating as a result of inhaling carbon monoxide (CO) gas emitted from heating appliances and water heaters inside their homes across several provinces of the country. The victims were treated on site and transferred in stable condition to local hospitals. It should be noted that 4 deaths were recorded due to carbon monoxide poisoning in the provinces of Algiers and Ain Defla. In the province of Algiers: (2) people died (an 85-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman), poisoned by carbon monoxide emitted from a water heater, inside their family home located in the Amirouche neighborhood, Hussein Dey municipality and district. In the province of Ain Defla: (2) people died (a 25-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman), poisoned by carbon monoxide emitted from a heater inside a home located on Ben Tifour Street, Miliana municipality and district. The bodies of the victims were transferred to the morgues of local hospitals. For your information, the Civil Protection intervened to extinguish six urban and other fires in the provinces of Algiers, Jijel, Tizi Ouzou, Batna, and Biskra. These fires resulted in one person suffering from respiratory distress following a fire that broke out inside a shop located in the Ayman Residence, El Achour Municipality, Draria District, Algiers Province. The victim received on-site treatment and was then transferred to the local health center. Our emergency services’ intervention enabled us to control these fires and prevent their spread to neighboring areas.
Civil protection officers also intervened following 3 explosions inside 3 buildings. The first case was in the province of El M’Ghair, a butane gas cylinder explosion followed by a fire inside a residence located on November 1st Street, in the municipality of Oum El Touyour, El M’Ghair district, resulting in 1 person sustaining various burns. The second case was in the province of Chlef, a gas leak from a boiler followed by an explosion inside a public bath located in the city center and district of Oued El Fodda, resulting in 7 people sustaining various injuries. The third case was in the province of El Bayadh, an explosion inside a house located on July 5th Street, in the municipality of Sidi Ahmed Bel Abbes, Boualem district, resulting in 2 people sustaining first and second degree burns and 2 other people suffering from shock. The victims were treated at the scene of the accidents and transferred to local health centers.
