Civil Protection Units intervention results between January 26 and 27, 2026 (during the last 24 hours)

 

During the period from January 26 to 27, 2026 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 3,388 interventions (an average of one intervention every 26 seconds), including 2,494 medical evacuations and 620 other operations, across several provinces of the country. These interventions followed distress calls from citizens and covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and security operations.

In the context of traffic accidents, Civil Protection units responded to 115 incidents across several provinces of the country. These accidents resulted in 14 deaths at the scene and injuries to 121 others, with varying degrees of severity. The victims were treated at the scene and then transported by our services to local hospitals. The deadliest accidents occurred in the provinces of Laghouat (3 deaths and 11 injuries), Boumerdès (3 deaths and 1 injury), Bordj Bou Arreridj (3 deaths and 1 injury), and In Guezzam (3 deaths).

Civil Protection services intervened to provide first aid to 26 people suffering from carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning due to faulty heating appliances and water heaters in their homes. The incidents occurred in the following provinces: Setif (6 people), Tizi Ouzou (6 people), Mila (3 people), Oran (2 people), Oum El Bouaghi (2 people), Algiers (2 people), and one person each in the provinces of El Bayadh, Mascara, Mostaganem, Djelfa, and Blida. The victims were treated at the scene and transported in stable condition to local hospitals. One death was recorded in El Bayadh province: a 50-year-old man poisoned by carbon monoxide from a gas stove inside a house in the town center, in the municipality of El Benoud, El Abiodh Sidi Cheikh district. The victim was taken to the local polyclinic.

Regarding the results of the Civil Protection interventions related to the weather fluctuations, especially the strong winds that affected several states of the country, our services recorded 25 different incidents involving falling trees, walls and roofs, and electrical cables in the states of: Algiers, Tissemsilt, M’Sila, Bejaia, Relizane and Tizi Ouzou. A 63-year-old woman died as a result of the collapse of a house wall in the village of Tseknefout, Ain El Hammam municipality, Tizi Ouzou state. The victim was transferred to the local hospital. In addition, a woman was injured in the shoulder as a result of a zinc sheet falling on her in Hussein Dey municipality, Algiers state. The necessary first aid was provided at the scene and she was transferred to Mustapha Pacha Hospital.
