Civil Protection Units intervention results between January 27 and 28, 2026 (during the last 24 hours)

During the period from January 27 to 28, 2026 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 3,603 interventions (an average of one intervention every 24 seconds), including 2,614 medical evacuations and 537 other operations, across several provinces of the country. These interventions followed distress calls from citizens and covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and security operations.

In the context of traffic accidents, Civil Protection units carried out 156 interventions following numerous accidents across several provinces of the country. These accidents resulted in the deaths of two people at the scene and injuries to 156 others, with varying degrees of severity. The victims were treated at the scene and then transported by our services to local hospitals. The most fatal accidents occurred in the provinces of Tlemcen and Boumerdès. In Tlemcen, a child was killed after being struck by a car in the village of Ouled Moussa, in the municipality and district of Beni Boussaid. In Boumerdès, a person was killed after being struck by a car on National Route 12, in the municipality and district of Bordj Menaïel.

Civil Protection services intervened to provide first aid to 13 people suffering from carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning from heating appliances and water heaters in their homes across the provinces of Constantine (6 people), Bordj Bou Arreridj (4 people), and Saïda (3 people). The victims were treated at the scene and transported in stable condition to local hospitals. Two deaths were also recorded in the province of Setif: two individuals, aged 47 and 24, were poisoned by carbon monoxide from a heater in a house in the village of Beljoudi, in the municipality of Bazer Sakra, El Eulma district. The bodies of the two victims were transferred to the morgue at El Eulma Hospital.

For your information, the Civil Protection intervened to extinguish four separate urban fires in the provinces of Algiers, Annaba, Sidi Bel Abbès, and Béjaïa. These fires resulted in one injury and two cases of shock in Béjaïa province, following a fire in a ground-floor residence in the area known as Idelsi Ighrem, Akbou municipality and district. Additionally, one woman suffered respiratory distress in Sidi Bel Abbès province, following a fire in an electrical meter box on the ground floor of building (T+9) located in the 502-unit housing complex in the municipality of Telmouni, Mostefa Ben Brahim district. The victims were treated at the scene and then transferred to local hospitals. Our emergency services’ intervention enabled us to control these fires and prevent their spread to neighboring areas.

Regarding the results of the Civil Protection interventions related to the weather fluctuations, especially the strong winds that affected several states of the country, our services recorded 04 different operations consisting of the fall of trees, walls and roofs, and electricity poles in the states of: Algiers, Tipaza and Mostaganem. In the state of Algiers, a tree fell in the place called Shakespeare Street in the municipality of Mouradia. In the state of Mostaganem, the collapse of the walls and roof of 03 tiled rooms was recorded in the municipality of Mostaganem, as well as the fall of a public lighting pole in the middle of the state road No. 69 in the municipality of Achaacha. Also in the state of Tipaza, a 10-meter-long pine tree fell on the state road No. 103 in the place called Douar Aghidane in the municipality of Sidi Semiane, without recording any human losses.
