Civil Protection Units intervention results between January 28 and 29, 2026 (during the last 24 hours)

In the context of traffic accidents, Civil Protection units carried out 102 interventions following numerous accidents across several provinces of the country. These accidents resulted in the deaths of 6 people at the scene and injuries to 107 others, with varying degrees of severity. The victims were treated at the scene and then transported by our services to local hospitals. The most serious incident occurred in the province of Ouargla: 1 death and 8 injuries resulting from a collision between a car and a tractor on National Road 49, in the municipality of Hassi Ben Abdallah, Sidi Khouiled district.

Civil Protection services intervened to provide first aid to 16 people suffering from carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning due to faulty heating appliances and water heaters in their homes across the provinces of Bordj Bou Arreridj (4 people), Djelfa (3 people), Blida (3 people), Guelma (2 people), Setif (1 person), Constantine (1 person), Medea (1 person), and Mila (1 person). The victims were treated at the scene and transported in stable condition to local hospitals.

For your information, the Civil Protection intervened to extinguish four urban and other fires in the provinces of Algiers (1 fire), Mostaganem (1 fire), and Constantine (2 fires). These fires resulted in one death in the province of Constantine, following a fire that broke out in a plumbing workshop and spread to a ground-floor apartment in a three-story building (1st floor + 3rd floor) in the Bab El Kantara neighborhood of Constantine. The victim’s body was transferred to the morgue of the local hospital.

Regarding the results of the Civil Protection interventions related to the weather fluctuations, especially the strong winds that affected 33 provinces of the country, our services recorded 372 intervention operations consisting of falling trees, walls and roofs, poles and electrical cables in the provinces of: Algiers, Tipaza, Mostaganem, Blida, Relizane, Chlef, Oran, Ain Temouchent, Tlemcen, Saida, Sidi Bel Abbes, Naama, Tiaret, Tissemsilt, Ain Defla, Medea, Tizi Ouzou, Boumerdes, Bouira, M’Sila, Bordj Bou Arreridj, Bejaia, Constantine, Mila, Skikda, Jijel, Annaba, Guelma, El Tarf, Batna, Tebessa, Biskra and Souk Ahras. 211 trees fell, 87 poles and electrical cables fell, 59 partial collapses, and 15 other objects fell. Meanwhile, 13 people were injured, including 5 in the province of Algiers. Mostaganem (2) people, Oran (2) people, Chlef (1) person, Blida (1) person, Skikda (1) person, and Guelma (1) person. The victims were treated on site and then transported to local hospitals. A family of four was evacuated as a precaution to relatives in Naâma province to avoid the strong winds. Civil Protection services also carried out several operations to rescue and evacuate people in dangerous situations due to the rainfall that affected the provinces of Relizane, Tiaret, and Tissemsilt. Our units intervened in Relizane province: evacuating seven families from their homes and transferring them to neighbors due to the rising water level of the wadi (riverbed), and rescuing more than 45 sheep in the municipality of Oued Essalem. They also rescued a family trapped near the Oued Rhiou wadi in the municipality of Ain Tarek, and rescued one person trapped inside a chicken coop after the Oued Rhiou wadi overflowed in the municipality of Ammi Moussa. In Tiaret province: a car was recovered. Four people were trapped on board due to the accumulation of rainwater in the area called Al-Shattiya, Dahmouni municipality. A person was removed from Wadi Al-Rahiou in Sidi Ali Mellal municipality. A car was swept away in a wadi, and two people were rescued on National Road No. 23. A family was rescued after being trapped by rainwater in Tamda village in Rahouia municipality. A person was also rescued after being trapped due to the high level of rainwater in Sidi Al-Abed in Sougueur municipality.
