Civil Protection Units intervention results between January 29 and 30, 2026 (during the last 24 hours)

During the period from January 29 to 30, 2026 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 3,327 interventions (an average of one intervention every 26 seconds), including 2,113 medical evacuations and 948 other operations, across several provinces of the country. These interventions followed distress calls from citizens and covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, weather-related incidents, and security operations.
In the context of traffic accidents, Civil Protection units carried out 138 interventions following numerous accidents across several provinces of the country. These accidents resulted in the deaths of 4 people at the scene and injuries to 159 others, ranging in severity. The victims were treated at the scene and then transported by our services to local hospitals. The most serious incident occurred in the province of Constantine: 1 death and 16 injuries of varying severity following a bus accident on the Constantine-Saïda route, on the East-West Highway, near the municipality of Aïn Smara, in the district of El Khroub.
Civil Protection services intervened to provide first aid to eight people suffering from carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning due to faulty heating appliances and water heaters in their homes. The incidents occurred in Bouira (five people), Bordj Bou Arreridj (two people), and Setif (one person). The victims were treated at the scene and transported in stable condition to local hospitals.
Meanwhile, three people died from carbon monoxide poisoning. In Djelfa province, two girls, aged eight and eleven, died after inhaling carbon monoxide from a heater in their home in the El Merdja area of Dar Chioukh municipality. In Khenchela province, a 72-year-old woman died after inhaling carbon monoxide from a cooking stove in her home in the Kousidar neighborhood of Khenchela municipality.
For your information, the Civil Protection intervened to extinguish five separate urban fires in the provinces of Algiers, Djelfa, Tizi Ouzou, Ain Defla, and Mila. These fires resulted in 11 people suffering from respiratory distress in Djelfa province, following a fire that broke out in a third-floor apartment in the Djouaf neighborhood of Hassi Bahbah municipality and district. The injured were treated and transported to the local hospital.
Regarding the results of the Civil Protection interventions related to the weather fluctuations during the last 24 hours, specifically the strong winds that affected 34 provinces of the country, our services recorded 158 interventions involving the falling of trees, walls and roofs, poles and electrical cables in the provinces of: Algiers, Tipaza, Mostaganem, Blida, Relizane, Chlef, Oran, Ain Temouchent, Tlemcen, Saida, Sidi Bel Abbes, Naama, Tiaret, Tissemsilt, Ain Defla, Medea, Tizi Ouzou, Boumerdes, Bouira, M’Sila, Bordj Bou Arreridj, Bejaia, Constantine, Mila, Skikda, Jijel, Annaba, Guelma, El Tarf, Batna, Tebessa, Biskra, Souk Ahras and the province of Laghouat, where 105 trees fell, 20 poles and electrical cables fell, 29 partial collapses of external walls, building roofs or cracks in walls were recorded. Four other objects fell, while four people sustained various injuries: two in Algiers province and two in Chlef province. The victims received on-site treatment and were then transported to local hospitals.
Accordingly, the total number of interventions related to weather fluctuations, since the start of the weather bulletin regarding strong winds on January 27, 2026, has risen to 530 operations across the 34 provinces mentioned above. These interventions have resulted in the downing of 316 trees, 107 downed power poles and cables, 88 partial collapses of exterior walls, building roofs, or cracks in walls, and 19 other falling objects. As for injuries, 17 people have been recorded so far, with injuries reported in the provinces of Algiers (7), Chlef (3), Mostaganem (2), Oran (2), Blida (1), Skikda (1), and Guelma (1). The victims received on-site treatment and were then transported to local hospitals.
With the continued weather forecast regarding strong winds, the Civil Protection calls on all citizens to increase their vigilance and adhere to the advice and instructions, and to contact 1021 or 14 in case of any accidents.
