Civil Protection Units intervention results between January 30 and 31, 2026 (in the last 24 hours)

During the period from January 30 to 31, 2026 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 2,788 interventions, averaging one intervention every 31 seconds. These included 1,917 medical evacuations and 618 other operations, across several provinces of the country, following distress calls from citizens. These interventions covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, weather-related incidents, and security operations.

In the context of traffic accidents, Civil Protection units carried out 120 interventions following numerous accidents across several provinces of the country. These accidents resulted in two (2) fatalities at the scene and injuries to 131 others, with varying degrees of severity. The victims were treated at the scene and then transported by our services to local hospitals.

Civil Protection services intervened to provide first aid to 10 people suffering from carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning from heating appliances and water heaters in their homes across the provinces of Annaba (5 people), El Bayadh (4 people), and Bechar (1 person). The victims were treated at the scene and transported in stable condition to local health facilities.

Meanwhile, one person died from carbon monoxide poisoning in Mila province. The victim, a 29-year-old man, inhaled carbon monoxide from a cooking stove (tabouna) in his home in the Ibn Badis neighborhood of El Mechira municipality, Telaghma district. The victim’s body was taken to the local hospital.

For your information, the Civil Protection intervened to extinguish four separate urban fires in the provinces of Saïda, Tiaret, Boumerdès, and Illizi. These fires resulted in six people suffering from respiratory distress in Saïda province and one person in Tiaret province. The victims received first aid at the scene and were then transported to local hospitals.

Furthermore, the Civil Protection services in Skikda province intervened following a gas cylinder explosion inside a ground-floor apartment in a two-story building (ground floor + first floor) located in the Ouled Malek neighborhood, Ben Azzouz municipality and district. The incident resulted in three people sustaining second-degree burns. The victims were treated at the scene and then quickly transported to the local hospital.

Regarding the Civil Protection interventions related to the severe weather conditions over the past 24 hours, specifically the strong winds that affected 23 provinces across the country, our services recorded 62 interventions. These included incidents involving fallen trees, walls and roofs, and downed power poles and cables in the following provinces: Algiers, Oran, Tiaret, Tissemsilt, Boumerdès, Saïda, Tipaza, Blida, Béjaïa, Bouira, Tizi Ouzou, Aïn Témouchent, Sidi Bel Abbès, Médéa, Relizane, Biskra, Skikda, Annaba, Jijel, Mila, El Tarf, Bordj Bou Arreridj, and Chlef. Specifically, 38 trees were downed, 12 power poles and cables were toppled, 11 partial collapses of exterior walls, building roofs, or cracks in walls occurred, and one other object was damaged. Tragically, one child, aged 12, died, and another was injured when a second-floor facade wall partially collapsed. A building under construction in the area known as Rue Toula Hamou Derb, Oran Municipality and District, and also, one person was injured in Boumerdès Province following the collapse of a signal pole in the municipality of Naciria.

Accordingly, the total number of interventions related to the severe weather, since the start of the weather bulletin regarding strong winds on January 27, 2026, has risen to 592 operations across the 35 provinces mentioned above. These interventions resulted in the following: 354 fallen trees, 119 downed power poles and cables, 99 partial collapses of exterior walls, building roofs, or cracks in walls, and 20 other falling objects. In the same context, the recorded casualties include the death of one child and injuries to 19 other people in the provinces of Algiers (7), Chlef (3), Oran (3), Mostaganem (2), Blida (1), Skikda (1), Guelma (1), and Boumerdès (1). The victims received on-site treatment and were then transported to local hospitals.

With the continuation of the weather bulletin regarding strong winds, the Civil Protection calls on all citizens to increase their level of caution and adhere to the advice and instructions, and to contact the numbers 1021 or 14 in case of any accidents.
