Civil Protection Units intervention results between March 26 and 28, 2026 (during the last 48 hours)

 

    

Between March 26 and 28, 2026 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 5,626 interventions (an average of one intervention every 31 seconds), including 3,621 medical evacuations and 920 other operations, across several provinces of the country. These interventions followed distress calls from citizens and covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and security operations.

Civil Protection units responded to a wide range of calls for assistance from citizens across several provinces of the country. In the context of traffic accidents, Civil Protection units carried out 387 interventions following numerous accidents across several provinces of the country. These accidents resulted in the deaths of 8 people at the scene and injuries to 562 others, ranging in severity. The victims were treated at the scene and then transported by our services to local hospitals. The most serious incident occurred in the province of In Guezzam, where 1 person died and 8 others were injured when a car veered off the road and overturned on National Route 1, in the municipality and district of In Guezzam.

Civil Protection services intervened to provide first aid to 11 people suffering from carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning due to faulty heating appliances and water heaters in their homes. The incidents occurred in the following provinces: Constantine (4 people), Bejaia (2 people), Setif (1 person), El Bayadh (1 person), Djelfa (1 person), Mila (1 person), and Naama (1 person). The victims received on-site treatment and were then transferred in stable condition to local health centers.

For your information, the Civil Protection intervened to extinguish 4 urban and other fires in the provinces of Algiers (3 fires) and Batna (1 fire). These fires resulted in two children suffering from shortness of breath following a fire that broke out in an apartment on the ground floor of a three-story building (floor + 3 floors) located in the El Merdja El Jadida neighborhood, Rouiba municipality and district. The victims were treated at the scene. Our emergency services’ intervention enabled us to control these fires and prevent their spread to other neighboring areas. Regarding the interventions of the Civil Protection services related to the severe weather conditions experienced in the provinces of Bechar, Ouargla, Beni Abbes, and El Bayadh, our services rescued 20 people who were stranded in dangerous situations, including 9 people in their vehicles. In the province of Bechar: 7 pedestrians were rescued in the area known as the New Zone, as well as 4 people stranded in the Hassi El Houari area, and 4 people who were in two trucks in the area known as the Lahmar Road. 3 cars without passengers were recovered from the Wadi Taghanana area and the Hassi El Houari area in the municipality of Bechar due to rising water levels. In the municipality of Moghel, 2 people were rescued from a car due to rising water levels, and in the municipality of Merija, 3 people were rescued from a car due to rising water levels. In the province of El Bayadh, a truck stuck on the edge of a wadi on National Road No. 47 in the municipality of El Bayadh was recovered. The Civil Protection services in the province of Bechar also carried out several operations to pump out rainwater that had seeped into homes in 09 neighborhoods in each of the neighborhoods of Al-Salam, Al-Dhabdhaba, Al-Fath, Al-Zawiya, Folitif, Tidmanin, Manoufa, the new Bashar buildings and the Diar Al-Hajra neighborhood. As for the state of Ouargla, rainwater was absorbed in each of the municipalities of Ouargla, Hassi Ben Abdallah and Hassi Messaoud, without recording any human losses.
