Civil Protection Units intervention results between May 21 and 23, 2026 (in the last 48 hours)

Between May 21 and 23, 2026 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 5,912 interventions (an average of one intervention every 29 seconds), including 3,800 medical evacuations and 839 other operations, across several provinces of the country. These interventions followed distress calls from citizens and covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and security operations.
Civil Protection units responded to a wide range of calls for assistance from citizens across several provinces of the country. In the context of traffic accidents, Civil Protection units carried out 443 interventions following numerous accidents across various provinces of the country. These accidents resulted in 14 deaths at the scene and 577 injuries of varying severity. The victims received on-site treatment and were then transported by our services to local hospitals. The highest tolls were recorded in the provinces of Mascara and Bouira. In Mascara province, 3 people died and 4 others were injured in a collision between two vehicles on the road connecting National Route 7 and Provincial Route 58 in the area known as Meryata, Ain Fekan municipality and district. In Bouira province, 3 people died and 1 was injured in a collision between a semi-trailer truck and a car on National Route 5 in El Adjiba municipality, Bechloul district.
In addition to the intervention of Civil Protection personnel to extinguish two urban fires in the provinces of Oum El Bouaghi and Chlef, which resulted in seven people suffering from respiratory distress, the first fire broke out in an apartment on the third floor of a multi-story building in the 500-unit housing complex in the municipality and district of Ain El Fakroun, Oum El Bouaghi province. The victims were treated at the scene and then transferred to the local hospital. Our emergency services successfully contained both fires and prevented their spread to neighboring areas.
It should be noted that the Civil Protection services in Tamanrasset province intervened following a butane gas leak and subsequent fire in the kitchen of a house located in the El Wiam neighborhood, in the municipality and district of Tamanrasset. This fire resulted in a woman sustaining second-degree burns. She was treated at the scene and then transferred to the local hospital. Our emergency services successfully contained this fire and prevented its spread to neighboring areas.
Civil Protection divers in the Wilaya of Relizane intervened to recover the body of a 6-year-old child who drowned in Wadi Mina, in the municipality and district of Relizane. The victim’s body was transported to Mohamed Boudiaf Hospital.
Similarly, Civil Protection divers in the Wilaya of Tipaza intervened to recover the body of a 16-year-old teenager who drowned at sea off the beach of Si El Haouas, in the municipality of Douaouda. The victim’s body was transported to Zeralda Hospital.
Civil Protection services in the Wilaya of Algiers also intervened following an incident in which a man and his two daughters fell from the sixth floor of a building (ground floor + 9 floors) in the 1228-unit housing complex in the municipality of Jisr Constantine, in the district of Hussein Dey. The 35-year-old man and his 9-month-old infant daughter died, while his other daughter, aged 3, sustained various injuries (and is in critical condition). They were all transferred to Mustapha Pacha Hospital.
