Civil Protection Units intervention results between September 24 and 26, 2026 (in the last 48 hours)

  Between September 24 and 26, 2026 (up to 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units carried out 5,477 interventions—averaging one intervention every 31 seconds—across various provinces in response to distress calls from citizens. These operations covered the full spectrum of Civil Protection activities, including responses to traffic accidents, domestic incidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and general safety operations.

Regarding traffic accidents, Civil Protection units responded to 405 incidents across the country, resulting in 14 fatalities at the scene and injuries to 524 others, with varying degrees of severity. The most serious incident occurred in Médéa Province, where a collision between two vehicles on National Road No. 8—in the municipality of Mezghana, Tablat District—left two people dead and three others injured. Victims received on-site care and were subsequently transported by our teams to local hospitals. Civil Protection units intervened to extinguish eight various urban fires across several provinces—specifically Algiers (two fires), Batna, Skikda, Khenchela, Tizi Ouzou, Tipaza, and Béjaïa. One person was injured in Tizi Ouzou; the victim received on-site care before being transferred to a local health center. Emergency teams successfully brought the fire under control and prevented it from spreading to adjacent areas.

Civil Protection units in Batna also responded to an incident involving a butane gas leak followed by an explosion in an apartment. The incident occurred on the first floor of a three-story building (Ground + 2) on Messaoudi El Hachemi Street, in the municipality and district of Batna. One person suffered burns and was treated on-site before being transported to the local hospital.

Regarding beach and recreational area surveillance operations over the past 48 hours, lifeguards carried out 202 interventions. These efforts resulted in saving 99 people from imminent drowning, providing on-site first aid to 103 individuals, and transferring six people to local health centers; no drowning fatalities were recorded. Regarding bodies of water, one drowning fatality was recorded in the Wilaya of Algiers at the lake in Reghaïa Municipality (Rouïba District); the victim’s body was transported to Rouïba Hospital. Additionally, during the same period, firefighting units intervened to extinguish 35 vegetation fires across various provinces nationwide, comprising: one forest fire, 17 brush fires, nine fruit tree fires, five hay bale fires, and three palm tree fires. The rapid and effective intervention of our teams enabled these fires to be extinguished and prevented them from spreading to surrounding vegetation.
