Results of intervention by Civil Protection units between 06 and 07 January 2026 (during the last 24 hours)

During the period from January 6th to 7th, 2026 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 3,245 interventions (an average of one intervention every 26 seconds), including 2,235 medical evacuations and 727 other operations, across several provinces of the country. These interventions followed distress calls from citizens and covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and security operations.
In the context of traffic accidents, Civil Protection units carried out 161 interventions following numerous accidents across several provinces of the country. These accidents resulted in the deaths of 3 people at the scene and injuries to 137 others, with varying degrees of severity. The victims were treated at the scene and then transported by our services to local hospitals.
Civil Protection services intervened to provide first aid to eight people suffering from carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning caused by heating appliances and water heaters in their homes in the provinces of Setif (5), Annaba (1), Blida (1), and Batna (1). The victims were treated at the scene and transferred in stable condition to local hospitals. Two women, aged 80 and 50, died in Annaba province from carbon monoxide poisoning caused by a water heater in their home in the 19 Juin neighborhood of El Hadjar municipality and district. Their bodies were taken to the morgue at the local hospital.
For your information, Civil Protection units intervened to extinguish three separate urban fires in Algiers Province (two fires) and Saïda Province (one fire). Five people suffered from smoke inhalation following a fire that broke out on the ground floor of a house in the 20 August neighborhood of Maamoura Municipality, in the Hassasna District. The victims were treated at the scene and then transferred to the local hospital. Our emergency services successfully contained these fires and prevented their spread to neighboring areas.
Regarding the interventions of the Civil Protection services related to the weather fluctuations, particularly in the provinces of Algiers, Tizi Ouzou, Bouira, Mascara, Oran, Bechar, Mostaganem, Tiaret, Relizane, Sidi Bel Abbes, Tlemcen, Boumerdes, Tissemsilt, and Bordj Bou Arreridj, our services carried out several operations to pump out rainwater and rescue people in dangerous situations. A total of 86 vehicles were removed from the road network due to snow accumulation and rainwater buildup on some roads in the provinces of Tiaret, Tissemsilt, Oran, Tlemcen, Bordj Bou Arreridj, and Tizi Ouzou. On another note, a tree fell on an old house in the Tebache neighborhood of Bologhine municipality, and a partial collapse of the roof of a room in an old, uninhabited house in the Casbah municipality of Algiers province occurred, with no casualties reported. Similarly, two collapses were recorded in Oran province: the first involved the roof of a room in a residence located on Safiat Mohamed Street in Oran municipality, and the second involved the roof of two rooms in an old house in Arzew municipality. In addition, two landslides were reported. Soil erosion in the area called Qambita in the municipality of Oran, followed by the collapse of two walls of two houses in the municipality of Arzew, leaving 2 victims in a state of shock who were treated on site. In the province of Mostaganem, a partial collapse of the roof of an old house in the area called Plateau was recorded without any casualties, in addition to the recording of a tree falling on the tramway track in the area called Ben Yahia Belkacem Street in the municipality of Mostaganem. The danger was removed and traffic returned.
