Results of intervention by Civil Protection units between 07 and 08 January 2026 (during the last 24 hours)

During the period from January 7th to 8th, 2026 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 2,950 interventions (an average of one intervention every 29 seconds), including 2,225 medical evacuations and 477 other operations, across several provinces of the country. These interventions followed distress calls from citizens and covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and security operations.
In the context of traffic accidents, Civil Protection units responded to 141 incidents across several provinces nationwide. These accidents resulted in 7 fatalities at the scene and 135 injuries of varying severity. The victims were treated at the scene and then transported by our services to local hospitals. The most serious incident occurred in Touggourt province, where 2 people died and 1 was injured in a collision between two trucks on National Route 3, in the municipality and district of Tamacine.
Civil Protection services also intervened to provide first aid to 5 people suffering from carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning due to faulty heating appliances and water heaters in their homes. These incidents occurred in the provinces of Algiers (2), Constantine (2), and Djelfa (1). The victims were treated at the scene and then transported in stable condition to local hospitals.
For your information, Civil Protection units intervened to extinguish six urban and other fires in the provinces of Djelfa, Batna, Constantine, Bordj Bou Arreridj, Blida, and Khenchela. In Djelfa province, these fires resulted in five people suffering from shortness of breath due to smoke inhalation in a house located in the El-Okda neighborhood, in the municipality and district of Charef. In Constantine province, eight people suffered from breathing difficulties and seven others were in a state of shock following a fire in a third-floor apartment of a five-story building (ground floor + 5 floors) located in the 120-unit housing complex, in the municipality and district of Zighoud Youcef. Similarly, in Khenchela province, two people suffered from breathing difficulties, two others sustained superficial burns, and one person was in a state of shock following a fire in a house on Rabii Sahraoui Street, in the municipality and district of Babar. The victims were treated at the scene. The scene was examined, and the injured were evacuated to local health centers. Our emergency services intervened, enabling us to control the fires and prevent their spread to neighboring areas.
Regarding the interventions of the Civil Protection services related to the severe weather, particularly in the provinces of Algiers, Tizi Ouzou, Bouira, Mascara, Medea, Khenchela, Relizane, Tiaret, Bordj Bou Arreridj, and Tebessa, our services rescued people in dangerous situations and also intervened following tree falls. In the province of Algiers: two metal sheets fell on two people, causing minor injuries, due to strong winds on Rue des Frères Abdel Salami in the municipality of Kouba. Also, a tree branch fell on one person, causing a head injury, due to strong winds in the municipality of El Biar. The victims were treated at the scene and then transported by our services to local hospitals. Additionally, part of a kitchen roof collapsed in the area known as Djenane Mabrouk in the municipality of Bachdjarah, and a palm tree fell on power lines in the municipality of Bab El Oued. No casualties were reported in these incidents. In the province of Medea, our services intervened to free a car stuck in the snow in the area known as El Dhaya in the municipality of Temzigda. In the province of Khenchela, two cars stuck in the snow were freed. Their bodies are 02 people in the place called Hammam Al-Salihin, the prayer room in the municipality of Al-Hamma.
