Results of intervention by Civil Protection units between 08 and 10 January 2026 (during the last 48 hours)
During the period from January 8th to 10th, 2026 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 5,788 interventions (an average of one intervention every 30 seconds), including 4,122 medical evacuations and 809 other operations, across several provinces of the country. These interventions followed distress calls from citizens and covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and security operations.
In the context of traffic accidents, Civil Protection units carried out 281 interventions following numerous accidents across several provinces of the country. These accidents resulted in injuries to 339 people (no fatalities at the scene). The victims were treated at the scene and then transported by our services to local hospitals.
Civil Protection services intervened to provide first aid to 27 people suffering from carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning due to faulty heating appliances and water heaters in their homes. The affected individuals were distributed as follows: 8 in Setif, 5 in Naama, 4 in El Bayadh, 4 in Constantine, and 1 each in Tiaret, Blida, Bechar, Laghouat, Khenchela, and El Tarf. The victims were treated at the scene and then transported to local hospitals in stable condition.
In addition, Civil Protection units in Medea intervened to extinguish a fire that broke out in a ground-floor apartment of a five-story building (ground floor + 5 floors) located in the 90-unit housing complex in the municipality and district of Souaghi. Nine people suffered from shortness of breath. They were treated at the scene and then transported to the local hospital. Our emergency response team successfully contained the fire and prevented it from spreading to the rest of the building.
Civil Protection services in Setif province intervened following a heater explosion inside an apartment in the 1500-unit housing complex in Tinar, Ouled Saber municipality, Guellal district. The explosion resulted in burns to one woman and shock to three children. The victims received first aid at the scene and were then transported to Setif Hospital.
Furthermore, regarding the severe weather, Civil Protection services in Tizi Ouzou province intervened to free four vehicles carrying 20 people that were stranded due to ice and frost in the area known as Fadj Chellata, in the municipality of Illoula Amellou. No injuries were reported.
