Results of intervention by Civil Protection units between December 16 and 17, 2025 (during the last 24 hours)

During the period from December 16 to 17, 2025 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 3,161 interventions (an average of one intervention every 27 seconds), including 2,218 medical evacuations and 515 other operations, across several provinces of the country. These interventions followed distress calls from citizens and covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and security operations.
In the context of traffic accidents, Civil Protection units responded to 180 incidents across several provinces of the country. These accidents resulted in 7 deaths at the scene and injuries to 202 others, ranging in severity. The victims received on-site medical attention and were then transported by our services to local hospitals. The most serious incident occurred in the province of Oum El Bouaghi, where 2 people died and 7 others sustained various injuries following a collision between two vehicles on National Road 102, in the municipality and district of Ksar Es-Sabahi.
Civil Protection services intervened to provide first aid to eight people suffering from carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning caused by heating appliances and water heaters in their homes. Six of these cases were in Constantine and two in Ain Temouchent. The victims were treated at the scene and then transferred to local hospitals. Tragically, three deaths were recorded due to carbon monoxide poisoning. In Setif, two people (an 80-year-old man and a 70-year-old woman) died from inhaling carbon monoxide from a heater in a house located on November 1, 1954 Street in El Eulma. In Tebessa, a 62-year-old man died from carbon monoxide poisoning from a heater in his family home in Mchta El Tarchan, Morsott.
For your information, Civil Protection units intervened to extinguish five separate urban fires in the provinces of Algiers, Oran, Setif, Mostaganem, and Batna. These fires resulted in one death in Oran, due to a fire that broke out in a ground-floor apartment of a two-story building (ground floor + 2 floors) located in Douar Boujemaa, Hassi Bounif municipality, Bir El Djir district. Additionally, 16 people suffered respiratory distress in Batna, following a fire in a ground-floor apartment of a nine-story building (ground floor + 9 floors) located in the 250-unit housing complex, Batna municipality and district. The victims were treated at the scene and then transferred to local hospitals. Our emergency services successfully contained these fires and prevented their spread to neighboring areas.
