Results of intervention by Civil Protection units between December 17 and 18, 2025 (during the last 24 hours)

Between December 17 and 18, 2025 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 2,908 interventions (an average of one intervention every 29 seconds), including 2,117 medical evacuations and 468 other operations, across several provinces of the country. These interventions followed distress calls from citizens and covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and security operations.
In the context of traffic accidents, the Civil Protection units carried out 158 interventions following numerous accidents recorded across several provinces of the country, resulting in the death of 3 people at the scene and injuries to 177 others of varying severity. The victims were treated at the scene and transferred by our services to local hospitals. The heaviest toll was recorded in the province of Laghouat with the death of 1 person and injuries to 4 others, following a collision between two cars on National Road No. 23, in the municipality and district of Aflou. Civil Protection services intervened to provide first aid to 18 people suffering from carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning caused by faulty heating appliances and water heaters in their homes. The incidents occurred in the following provinces: Naâma (5 people), Tissemsilt (4 people), El Bayadh (1 person), Mila (2 people), Constantine (1 person), Tlemcen (1 person), and Guelma (1 person). The victims received on-site treatment and were then transported to local hospitals.
Civil Protection services also intervened to provide first aid to 18 people who had been poisoned by carbon monoxide (CO) emitted from heating appliances and water heaters in their homes. For your information, Civil Protection units intervened to extinguish four separate urban fires in the provinces of Constantine, Mostaganem, Bordj Bou Arreridj, and Guelma. These fires resulted in one death in Constantine, due to a fire that broke out on the ground floor of a two-story residential building (floor + 1) located in the Boudarâa neighborhood, Constantine municipality and district. Additionally, two people suffered respiratory distress in Mostaganem province, following a fire in a grocery store in the city center, Ain Tedles municipality and district. Furthermore, four people suffered respiratory distress and one person was in shock in Bordj Bou Arreridj province, due to a fire in an apartment building located in the 50-unit housing complex, Bordj Bou Arreridj municipality and district. The victims were treated at the scene and then transferred to local hospitals. Our emergency services successfully contained these fires and prevented their spread to neighboring areas.
Civil Protection services in Guelma province rescued one person from a 20-meter-deep pit in the area known as El Mina El Barma, Djebel Debagh, in the municipality and district of Hammam Debagh. First aid was administered to the victim at the scene, and he was then transported to the local hospital.
Similarly, our unit in Bejaia province intervened following the collapse of a ground-floor house due to a landslide in the area known as Bouzermane, in the municipality and district of Sidi Aïch. No casualties were reported.
Regarding the weather fluctuations that affected various states of the country during the last 24 hours, including the states of Beni Abbes and El Bayadh, where people trapped due to rising water levels were rescued, in the state of Beni Abbes, 6 people were rescued in Wadi El Doura who were on board 4 trucks, a car and a crane at the level of the municipality of Tebalbala, in the state of El Bayadh, in the municipality of El Benoud, (2) people in a state of shock were rescued who were on board a truck stuck in Wadi El Batima, while at the level of the municipality of El Abiodh Sidi Cheikh, 3 people were rescued who were on board a truck stuck in Wadi Bermad, the victims were taken care of at the scene and then transferred to local hospitals.
