Results of intervention by Civil Protection units between December 18 and 20, 2025 (during the last 48 hours)

Between December 18 and 20, 2025 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 5,765 interventions, averaging one intervention every 30 seconds. These included 3,615 medical evacuations and 966 other operations, across several provinces nationwide, following distress calls from citizens. These interventions covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and security operations.

Regarding traffic accidents, Civil Protection units carried out 373 interventions following numerous accidents across several provinces. These accidents resulted in 17 fatalities at the scene and 438 injuries of varying severity. Victims were treated at the scene and then transported by our services to local hospitals. The highest toll was recorded in Boumerdès Province, with 3 deaths and 25 injuries resulting from 19 road accident interventions.

Civil Protection services intervened to provide first aid to 33 people suffering from carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning from heating appliances and water heaters in their homes across several provinces. The victims were treated at the scene and then transferred to local hospitals in stable condition. Four deaths were recorded: three from carbon monoxide poisoning and one from natural gas poisoning. In Ghardaia province, two women, aged 58 and 92, died after inhaling carbon monoxide from a water heater in the Haj Massoud area. In Guelma province, a 33-year-old man died from carbon monoxide poisoning from a traditional oven in the El-Tout neighborhood of Oued Zenati. In Tiaret province, a 29-year-old man died, and another person was rescued from natural gas poisoning in their family home in the 448-unit housing complex in Tiaret. The bodies of the victims were transported to the morgues. Civil Protection Units intervened to extinguish six urban and other fires in the following provinces: Algiers (2 fires), Medea (1 fire), Constantine (1 fire), Skikda (1 fire), and Chlef (1 fire). These fires resulted in one person being injured in Medea and two people suffering second-degree burns in Constantine. The victims received on-site treatment and were then transferred to local health facilities. Our emergency services successfully contained these fires and prevented their spread to neighboring areas.

Furthermore, Civil Protection units in Chlef responded to a butane gas cylinder explosion and subsequent fire inside a house in the Bouqaa El Madina area of ​​El Abiodh Medjadja municipality. This resulted in one person suffering burns and three others experiencing shock. The victims received necessary first aid and were then transferred to Ouled Fares Hospital.

Regarding the weather fluctuations witnessed in the states of Ghardaia, El Bayadh, El Oued, Touggourt, El M’Ghair, Laghouat, Beni Abbes, Ouargla and Ouled Djellal, where our intervention units carried out several operations to absorb rainwater within 07 neighborhoods in the municipality of El M’Ghair as well as 03 neighborhoods in the municipality of El Oued, in addition to rescuing people who were in dangerous situations in the state of Ghardaia, where 07 people trapped were rescued who were on a car and a motorcycle as a result of the rise in the water level in the municipality of El Guerrara, as well as removing 07 vehicles that were stuck in the municipalities of El Guerrara, Ghardaia, Berriane and Zelfana. Our services also intervened in the state of El Bayadh to remove a car trapped by rainwater in the municipality of El Bayadh Sidi Cheikh, in addition to our rescues in the state of Laghouat removing a car and a truck trapped by rainwater in the municipalities of Laghouat and Guetta Sidi Saad without recording human losses.
