Results of intervention by Civil Protection units between December 24 and 25, 2025 (during the last 24 hours)

 

During the period from December 24 to 25, 2025 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 2,772 interventions (an average of one intervention every 31 seconds), including 1,933 medical evacuations and 440 other operations, across several provinces of the country. These interventions followed distress calls from citizens and covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and security operations.

In the context of traffic accidents, Civil Protection units carried out 154 interventions following numerous accidents across several provinces of the country. These accidents resulted in the deaths of 9 people at the scene and injuries to 181 others, ranging in severity. The victims received on-site treatment and were then transported by our services to local hospitals. The most serious incident occurred in the province of Tiaret, where 2 people died and 3 others sustained various injuries following a collision between three vehicles on National Road 40 in the area known as Lasass, in the municipality and district of Hammadia.

Civil Protection services intervened to provide first aid to 43 people suffering from carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning from heating appliances and water heaters in their homes across several provinces. The victims were treated at the scene and then transferred to local hospitals in stable condition. Tragically, one person, a 40-year-old man, died in Mila province from carbon monoxide poisoning caused by a heater in his home in the 18 February neighborhood of Wadi El Othmania municipality, Chelghoum El Aid district. The victim’s body was taken to the local hospital.

It should be noted that Civil Protection units also intervened to extinguish three separate urban fires in the provinces of Chlef, Saida, and Ain Defla, without any reported casualties. Our emergency services successfully contained these fires and prevented their spread to neighboring areas.

Civil Protection services in Khenchela intervened following a gas explosion and subsequent fire in an apartment on the third floor of a three-story building (ground floor + 3 floors) in the “70 Housing Units” neighborhood of Ouled Rechache municipality and district. No casualties were reported.

Regarding the severe weather conditions experienced across the country over the past 24 hours due to rainfall, Civil Protection units intervened to pump out rainwater and evacuate stranded individuals. In Oran province, a family of five was evacuated to a shelter in Boufatis municipality due to accumulated rainwater. Water was also pumped out in neighborhoods in Tafraoui and Bir El Djir municipalities. A partial landslide in the Ras El Ain neighborhood of Oran municipality blocked a road. In Chlef province, rainwater was pumped out of a two-story basement in Chottia municipality. As for the state of Ghilizane, rainwater was absorbed after it leaked into some houses in Douar El Halaimia in the municipality of Djidiouia, without any human casualties being recorded.
