Results of intervention by Civil Protection units between December 25 and 27, 2025 (during the last 48 hours)

   

Between December 25 and 27, 2025 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 5,772 interventions (an average of one intervention every 30 seconds), including 3,724 medical evacuations and 924 other operations, across several provinces of the country. These interventions followed distress calls from citizens and covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and security operations.

In the context of traffic accidents, Civil Protection units responded to 303 incidents across several provinces of the country. These accidents resulted in 11 fatalities at the scene and 336 injuries of varying severity. The victims received on-site medical attention and were then transported by our services to local hospitals. The most serious incident occurred in Algiers province, where 3 people died and 1 was injured when a car veered off the road and overturned at the Sidi M’hamed-Bir Touta intersection in the municipality and district of Bir Touta.

Civil Protection services also intervened to provide first aid to 67 people who were asphyxiated by inhaling carbon monoxide (CO) gas emitted from heating appliances and water heaters inside their homes in several provinces of the country. The victims were treated on site and transferred in stable condition to local hospitals. It should be noted that 3 people died from carbon monoxide poisoning in the provinces of Tiaret and Oum El Bouaghi. In Tiaret province: (2) people died (a 63-year-old man and a 52-year-old woman) from carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning, emitted from a heater inside a home located in the El Oued area, Serghine municipality, Ksar Chellala district. In Oum El Bouaghi province: (1) man, aged 50, died from carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning, emitted from a heater inside a home located in the Ennassim neighborhood, Ksar Es-Sabahi municipality and district. The bodies of the victims were transferred to the morgues of local hospitals.

For your information, Civil Protection units intervened to extinguish 9 urban and other fires in the provinces of Oran, Mila, Bordj Bou Arreridj, Blida, Medea, Ain Temouchent, Tipaza, Constantine and Boumerdes. One person died in the province of Oran as a result of a fire that broke out inside a tin house located in the area called Kharouba Bounif, Hassi Bounif municipality, Bir El Djir district. Also, two people were injured with second-degree burns in the province of Bordj Bou Arreridj, as a result of a fire that broke out inside an apartment in El Anasser municipality and Bordj Ghedir district. Also, one person was injured with second-degree burns in the province of Mila as a result of a fire that broke out inside an apartment on the fifth floor of a residential building consisting of (T.A+5) located in the Haifi Mabrouk neighborhood, Chelghoum El Aid municipality and district. Also, two people suffered from difficulty breathing in the province of Blida as a result of a fire that broke out in an electrical cabinet on the ground floor of a building. The fire, which started in the (T.A+5) neighborhood of the 1024-unit housing complex in the municipality and district of Ouled Yaïch, was brought under control. Victims were treated at the scene and then transported to local hospitals. Our emergency services intervened to contain the fire and prevent its spread to neighboring areas.

Regarding the severe weather conditions experienced across the country over the past 48 hours, including rain and snow, Civil Protection units intervened to evacuate people and free stranded vehicles. In Tizi Ouzou province, two vehicles carrying three people were freed from the snow-covered area known as Fadj Tirourda in the municipality of Iferhounen. Similarly, in Bouira province, four stranded vehicles and a bus carrying 60 people were freed from National Route 33 in the area known as Tikjda in the municipality of El Asnam, also due to snow accumulation. In the province of Bordj Bou Arreridj, nine cars were found stranded on Provincial Road 42 in the Kef Boujerioua area of ​​the municipality of Taghlit due to ice. In the province of Ain Temouchent, a rockslide occurred, causing partial collapse of a house and the death of a 65-year-old woman in the Douar Laghraza area of ​​the municipality of Oulhassa El Gharaba. The victim’s body was transported to the local hospital.
