The outcome of the Civil Protection Units’ intervention between July 26 and 27, 2026 (during the last 24 hours)

Between July 26 and 27, 2026 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 4,703 interventions (an average of one intervention every 18 seconds), including 2,244 medical evacuations and 605 other operations, across several provinces of the country. These interventions followed distress calls from citizens and covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and security operations.
In the context of traffic accidents, Civil Protection units responded to 194 incidents across various provinces of the country. These accidents resulted in 13 fatalities at the scene and injuries to 241 others, ranging in severity. The victims received on-site medical attention and were then transported by our services to local hospitals. The most serious incident occurred in the province of Tamanrasset, where 5 people died and 4 others sustained various injuries when a vehicle veered off the road and overturned on National Route 1 in the municipality of Ain M’guel, Tamanrasset district.
It should be noted that Civil Protection units also intervened to extinguish two urban fires in the provinces of Relizane and Sidi Bel Abbès. No casualties were reported in either incident. Our emergency services successfully contained these fires and prevented their spread to neighboring areas.
Regarding the interventions of the Coast Guard and Recreation Service during the last 24 hours, they carried out 1,170 interventions, which allowed for the rescue of 824 people from imminent drowning, as well as providing first aid to 306 people on site, in addition to transferring 36 people to local health centers. Three drowning deaths were recorded: in the province of Algiers: the death of a 16-year-old teenager at Blue Beach (a beach where swimming is permitted – red flag), Staoueli municipality, Zeralda district; and in the province of Mostaganem: two deaths, the first being a 50-year-old man at Ouria 2 Beach (a beach where swimming is permitted outside of lifeguard hours), Mazagran municipality, Hassi Mamache district, and the second being a 19-year-old youth at Dunes Beach (a beach where swimming is prohibited), Mazagran municipality, Hassi Mamache district. The bodies of the victims were transferred to local hospitals by the service. Civil Protection.
For your information, one drowning death was recorded in a body of water in the area known as Hassi Labied, Aflou Municipality and District, Laghouat Province. The victim was transferred to the local health center.
Also, during the same period, the Forestry and Agricultural Firefighting Service intervened to extinguish 75 vegetation fires, including: 26 forest fires, 5 scrubland and brush fires, 9 dry grass fires, 6 agricultural crop fires, 13 fruit tree fires, 12 hay bale fires, and 4 palm tree fires, across several provinces of the country. It is worth noting that the rapid and effective intervention of our services allowed us to extinguish these fires and prevent their spread to other vegetation.
