The outcome of the Civil Protection Units’ intervention between July 9 and 11, 2026 (during the last 48 hours)

   Between July 9th and 11th, 2026 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 9,610 interventions (an average of one intervention every 18 seconds), including 3,849 medical evacuations and 1,387 other operations, across several provinces of the country. These interventions followed distress calls from citizens and covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and security operations.

Civil Protection units responded to a wide range of calls for assistance from citizens across several provinces of the country. In the context of traffic accidents, Civil Protection units responded to 473 incidents across various provinces of the country. These accidents resulted in 10 fatalities at the scene and 531 injuries of varying severity. The victims received on-site medical attention and were then transported by our services to local hospitals. The most serious incident occurred in Skikda province, where two people died when a car veered off the road and overturned on the East-West Highway in the municipality and district of Azzaba.

For your information, the Civil Protection services intervened to extinguish five urban, industrial, and other fires in the provinces of Algiers, Djelfa, Mila, Tebessa, and Constantine. These fires resulted in six people suffering from respiratory distress in Djelfa, one person suffering from respiratory distress in Mila, one person suffering burns and four others suffering from respiratory distress in Tebessa, and five people suffering from respiratory distress and two others with injuries in Constantine. The victims were treated at the scene and then transferred to local health centers. Our emergency services’ intervention enabled us to control these fires and prevent their spread to neighboring areas.

Civil Protection services in Medea intervened following the death of a 55-year-old man and the injury of five others who suffered respiratory distress after inhaling toxic gases inside a sewage drain in the Sidi Muslim neighborhood of Medea municipality and district. First aid was administered at the scene, and the injured were transferred to the local hospital. The deceased victim’s body was taken to the hospital morgue.

Regarding the interventions of the Coast Guard and Recreation Service during the last 48 hours, they carried out 2,650 interventions, which allowed for the rescue of 1,992 people from imminent drowning, as well as providing first aid to 556 people on site, in addition to transferring 105 people to local health centers. Seven people drowned in the sea in the following provinces: Tipaza (2 people: 1 child, 10 years old, at a beach where swimming is permitted, and 1 man, 45 years old, at a beach where swimming is prohibited); Bejaia (1 teenager, 17 years old, at a beach where swimming is permitted, outside of lifeguard hours); Algiers (1 young man, 30 years old, at a beach where swimming is prohibited); Skikda (1 girl, 9 years old, at a beach where swimming is prohibited); Ain Temouchent (1 man, 35 years old, at a beach where swimming is permitted, outside of lifeguard hours); and El Tarf (1 teenager). At 16 years old, two drowning deaths were recorded in water reservoirs in Khenchela province, involving two 17-year-old teenagers.

Furthermore, during the same period, the Forestry and Agricultural Firefighting Service intervened to extinguish 271 vegetation fires, including: 25 forest fires, 12 brush fires, 47 scrubland fires, 86 crop fires, 39 fruit tree fires, 51 hay bale fires, and 11 palm tree fires, across several provinces nationwide. It is worth noting that the rapid and effective intervention of our services allowed us to extinguish these fires and prevent their spread to other vegetation.
