The outcome of the Civil Protection Units’ intervention between September 1 and 2, 2026 (during the last 24 hours)

   During the period from September 1st to 2nd, 2026 (until 8:00 AM), Civil Protection units recorded 3,785 interventions, averaging one intervention every 22 seconds. These included 2,091 medical evacuations and 577 other operations, across several provinces of the country, following distress calls from citizens. These interventions covered various areas of Civil Protection activity, including traffic accidents, domestic accidents, medical evacuations, firefighting, and security operations.

In the context of traffic accidents, Civil Protection units carried out 194 interventions following numerous accidents across the country. These accidents resulted in 10 fatalities at the scene and injuries to 234 others, with varying degrees of severity. The victims received on-site treatment and were then transported by our services to local hospitals.

Civil Protection services intervened to extinguish six urban and other fires in the provinces of Algiers (2 fires), Skikda (2 fires), Blida (1 fire), and Saïda (1 fire). These fires resulted in two people suffering burns in Algiers province and five people experiencing respiratory distress in Saïda province. Necessary first aid was administered to the victims, who were then transported to local health facilities. Our emergency services successfully contained these fires and prevented their spread to neighboring areas.

Regarding the interventions of the Coast Guard and Recreation Service over the past 24 hours, they carried out 581 interventions, rescuing 410 people from drowning and providing first aid to 148 people on site. Additionally, 23 people were transferred to local health centers. No drowning deaths were recorded.

Civil Protection divers in Medea province also intervened to recover the body of an 18-year-old who drowned in a water basin in the area known as El Basour, Ben Chicao municipality, Ouled Yaïch district. The victim’s body was transferred to the morgue at the local hospital.

Furthermore, the Forestry and Agricultural Firefighting Service intervened during the same period to extinguish 33 vegetation fires, including: 10 forest fires, 2 brush fires, 2 scrubland fires, 7 fruit tree fires, 5 hay bale fires, and 7 palm tree fires, across several provinces nationwide. It is worth noting that the rapid and effective intervention of our services allowed us to extinguish these fires and prevent their spread to other vegetation.
