The results of the practical apparatus dedicated to guarding beaches and recreation at the level of beaches allowed for swimming in the period from June 1 to September 30, 2026

   As part of the operational deployment for beach surveillance and safety at authorized swimming beaches, Civil Protection services recorded 92,229 interventions between June 1 and September 30, 2026. These operations resulted in the rescue of 65,412 people from drowning and the provision of on-site first aid to another 22,712 individuals at beach surveillance posts, where victims were treated for various injuries; additionally, 3,979 injured persons were evacuated to medical facilities.

Separately, 171 drowning fatalities were recorded at sea during the same period. Of these, 89 occurred at beaches where swimming is prohibited, and 79 occurred at authorized swimming beaches—with 42 of the latter cases taking place outside Civil Protection surveillance hours. Regarding accidents involving watercraft, three fatalities were recorded (in the provinces of Skikda, El Tarf, and Algiers), while 33 people received assistance across several provinces: Tipaza (14), Algiers (11), Annaba (3), Oran (2), El Tarf (2), and Jijel (1).

It is worth noting that the General Directorate of Civil Protection deployed a substantial operational force to authorized swimming beaches to ensure the safety and security of vacationers, comprising 11,000 personnel, including professionals, divers, and seasonal staff. Regarding swimming in water bodies and pools—a phenomenon that continues to claim many lives nationwide—72 drowning deaths have been recorded since June 1, 2026. These fatalities are distributed as follows: dams (5), valleys (5), ponds (20), water barriers (8), swimming pools (10), irrigation basins (20), and artificial basins (4). The majority of the victims were children and adolescents, despite the awareness-raising campaigns organized throughout the summer recreation season.
